Our entire Class “A” Portfolio was awarded the US Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED-EB Gold Certification for Operations and Maintenance in January 2009. This includes 21-story Plaza Tower, 21-story Center Tower and 17-story Park Tower which comprises over 1.2 million square feet of office space.
Segerstrom officials traveled to Washington, D.C. during 2009 for additional recognition of the LEED-EB Gold Certification for Plaza Tower, Center Tower and Park Tower. They are the first multi-tenant buildings in California, and three of the first four buildings in the United States to be awarded LEED Gold certification by the US Green Building Council for Operations and Maintenance.
“It is always exciting to have an accomplishment that is a first of a kind, especially when it is for something as important as protecting the environment,” said Henry Segerstrom, Managing Partner, C.J. Segerstrom & Sons. “It was an honor to travel back to Washington, D.C. and receive this special recognition by the United States Green Building Council.”
Mr. Segerstrom met personally with Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO and Founding Chairman of the USGBC. “Buildings are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems,” said Rick Fedrizzi. “The South Coast Plaza project efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come.”
As a part of the Green Building Program the three office towers will reduce the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere by over 9.5 million pounds annually and reduce water consumption by over 3 million gallons annually. This is a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of these buildings.
The 468,550 square foot Plaza Tower, one of the two tallest buildings in Orange County, is located at 600 Anton Boulevard, Costa Mesa, California. Plaza Tower was designed by world renowned architect Cesar Pelli and incorporates an efficient stainless steel and dual paned window curtain wall in addition to high efficiency cooling systems.
